My Go-To Skincare

I’ve been fortunate enough to have clear skin for the majority of my life. Don’t get me wrong, there were some rough teen years in there, but with a few trips to the dermatologist, and a little patience, it all cleared up.

Now, from time-to-time, I deal with the slightest of breakouts, but despite not having any major skin issues I still do my best to take care of my skin. I would say I have quite interesting skin, as it truly is the definition of combination, but when fall and winter come around I never really know what I’m going to get.

My trick to keeping my skin happy is rotating the products I use. If my skin gets used to any particular product, that’s a wrap, I’ll probably have skin issues for the next week. But when I’m constantly switching things up, my skin looks pretty good. So with that said, here are my go-to products that will always be in my skincare rotation.

While in college, I tried a number of cleansers. Some were good, others not so good, but this one always stayed consistent. I would pack Cetaphil Cleanser in my travel bag for away games (I played basketball in college) and ironically I would always wonder why my skin looked it’s best on the road. I always woke up with the clearest skin.

Naturally, many people, they would have thought, “Wow, maybe I should use this cleanser all the time.” No, not me, it took me half a season to realize that it was actually the cleanser that was making all the difference. I guess I just really wanted to give my super healthy, organic, and expensive skincare items a chance. But if I’ve learned anything, when it comes to skincare, it is don’t fix what’s not broken. There will always be a new product claiming to cure every imperfection, or that it’s the most organic thing on the market, but the moment you find what works for you, stick to it!

Mario Badescu Kera Moisturizer

I have yet to find a moisturizer that I am head-over-heels about. In the cooler months, my skin can become tight and dry, but the moment it gets an ounce of moisture to it, it begins to look shiny and oily. I’ve begun to embrace my natural glow for what it is, but some moisturizers do me no favors.

While I’m not sure if this is the best moisturizer for me, I would say it’s pretty close. I remember when I first picked the Mario Badescu Kera Moisturizer out, I spent 20 minutes in Ulta reading through all of the symbols for this brand and what they meant, just to ensure that I was choosing the right one. Still unsure I made my best guess and walked out. I think I guessed pretty well because this moisturizer got me through the windy Kansas winter last year.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer

As you could probably imagine, this product is seasonal, or at least it used to be. But with eBay, Amazon and Mercari, what is really seasonal these days? You can get it whenever now. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask works wonders I tell you! It’s a double exfoliant. The beads exfoliate your face while the enzymes chemically exfoliate as well. If you have sensitive skin, as I do, I would be careful not to overuse this. Don’t leave it on for too long, and if it starts to burn remove it ASAP. Other than that, it leaves your skin looking amazing!

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel (Original Formula)

If you want to talk about holy grail, this is it! If I’ve tried everything and my skin still can’t seem to get it together, this is the answer. Dr. Dennis Gross Daily Peel Packets is a two-step process. Step one is wiping the first sheet all over your face and letting it sit for two minutes. I let it sit for longer, but I’ve also been using this product for a while, so start slow. It’s another chemical exfoliant. Then after two minutes, you use sheet two on your face. It neutralizes the chemical and moisturizes your face. Do that before you go the bed and then let me know how great your face looks in the morning. You’re welcome in advance! Now, I will tell you this is expensive, but I don’t use mine every day, just for “emergencies” so they will last a while and they really do work.

I hope this blog post gave you some new products to check out and hopefully a jumpstart on clearer and more hydrated skin for these colder months. Comment down below with your go-to skincare products so that others can test out what you use.
