I’m a big fan of speaking things aloud even if you’re not telling anyone in particular, just yourself. After looking back on 2016, I think we all can say that we learned a lot. Some things went as planned, others didn’t; some things fell into place without much effort, others fell apart. With that being said, my underlying theme for 2016 was growth. While I didn’t set out to make that my mantra, it was a trend that formed as the year progressed. Now, in 2017, I feel compelled to choose a mantra that I can live by and refer to as I set out to accomplish my goals.
For me, I believe that 2017 will be my year to grinding. As someone who will graduate from graduate school, begin my first full-time job, and hopefully launch a few side projects/hustles throughout the year, I feel that I can confidently refer to this year as my year to grind. I know, it sounds kind of clique. Everyone says “no days off” and “rise and grind,” but truly my goals for this year are to say yes to more opportunities and work diligently towards success in all my endeavors. At the end of the year, I want to look back and say that I have marked things off my bucket list, completed tasks I had only dreamed of, and that if something didn’t work out, it wasn’t because I didn’t pour my all into it.
This is why I have decided that my mantra for this year is, “She believed she could so she did”. I’m sure you’ve all heard it before, but I truly plan to live this mantra to its fullest in 2017. I am adopting the idea that anything my imagination dreams up has the potential to become my reality with hard work, determination, and a plan.
All things the same, I think everyone should take time to figure out what they truly want out of their year. Choose a theme, saying, or even a mantra that you can reference and will keep you focused on your goals for the year.
Start by answering the question, “What do I truly want to get out of this year?”
Do you want to land a new job, lose weight, travel, find a new hobby/passion, finally start that business you’ve been dreaming about, find your squad/ solid group of friends? Whatever it may be, it all starts with a focused goal supported by a mantra or theme. From there, your consistency and willingness to do something every day that moves you one step closer to your goal will be what produces results.
Ultimately, the theme, mantra, or saying isn’t enough, but it is the first step, and I challenge you to take it.
What will your mantra be this year?
